SUBMISSION PROCESS

1. Panel Proposals

In order to facilitate both coherence and variety we have designed sub-streams to which panels may be addressed. These will be co-ordinated by a postgraduate steering committee, drawn from around Australia, and advised by the conference committee here in Sydney. The streams are the following (a full description can be found here):

  • Cities
  • Rural China
  • Cultural Industries and Media
  • Politics and Economy
  • History and the Future
  • Literature and the arts

As is usual in CSAA conferences, panels addressing members' interests not covered in streams are welcomed. Panels can revolve around, for example,  a common theme, an ongoing research project, an edited volume. Please note that in all disciplines, panel applications will receive precedence in scheduling. All files and documents should be prepared according to the  guidelines reported below.

Online Submission: Step 1

  • login, or create a new user account if you do not have one
  • select the stream to which you intend to submit from the drop-down list. When submitting a panel which does not fit in the streams / keywords proposed above, please select the 'Other Research Areas' stream
  • please make sure to tick all items in the checklist, even if some of them only apply to papers / abstracts submissions
  • use the 'Comments for Conference Director' text field to specify additional guidelines for authors interested in submitting a paper / abstract to the panel (file formats, editing conventions, bibliography styles etc.). Use the same text field for formulating any specific requests to the conference organizers

Online Submission: Step 2

  • full details for the first panel convenor will be automatically uploaded from your user profile. If the panel has more than one convenor, details can be added using the 'Add Author' button at the bottom of the user data form
  • for panel proposals, please make sure you select Panel Presentation as the Submission Type
  • provide the panel title and a brief description of the panel theme / topic (about 300 words)

Managing the panel

Once the panel is reviewed and accepted, you will receive an email saying that you have online access to the panel. You will also receive detailed instructions on how to manage and update the panel online; read and review the submitted abstracts; accept / decline papers etc.

The panel abstract will be published in the Streams page. The panel will be marked as open to submissions, and authors will be able to directly submit papers for the panel from the conference website. If you do not wish the panel to be open to  online submissions (for example, if you prefer prospective participants to directly contact you and the other convenors prior to  submitting a paper), please indicate so when submitting the panel proposal; use the 'Comments for Conference Director'  text field in the submission form. In this case, the panel will not be marked as open for submissions, and only the panel convenor(s) will be authorized to upload abstracts and files for the panel. Please consider that, in order to guarantee a proper scheduling for the conference, you should upload the received abstracts and files as soon as possible.

2. Individual Papers

When submitting a paper, only the title and abstract (maximum 200 words) need to be provided. If you wish the paper to be peer reviewed however, you will also have to submit the full paper by 31 January 2009.

To submit a paper, read the Call for Papers and check the available Streams, then follow the 'Online Submission' link in the left-hand menu. All files and documents should be prepared according to the guidelines reported below.

Peer Review Option

For the first time, the CSAA Conference will offer a peer review option for individual papers.  Authors can request peer review at the time of submission, using the 'Comments for Conference Director' text field in the online submission form. Before submitting, please check if the peer review option is available for the stream / panel you intend to submit to; information about stream policies are available in the Streams page.  Authors interested in the peer review option are required to upload the full paper (maximum 3,000 words) by 31 January 2009; see below for instructions on uploading additional files. Revievers' responses will be returned by the end of March 2009.

Additional files - Managing your submission

You are free to upload additional files ( full paper,  datasets, details of analyses, pictures etc) at any time after your initial submission.  You can manage / update your submission by logging in and choosing 'User Home' from the top menu. After your paper is accepted, the files will be made available to all registered users of the website.

PowerPoint Presentations

Due to environmental cost measures, presenters are required to submit a justification for using Power Point presentations during their session. The justification will have to be submitted together with the abstract. Please consider that you can in any case upload PowerPoint files for your submission; the slides will be available for download to all registered users of the website.

Submission Process: Step 1

  • login, or create a new user account if you have not already done so
  • select the panel to which you intend to submit your paper from the drop-down list. If you cannot identify a specific panel for your paper, you can still submit to one of the main conference streams.  You can re-address your submission to a more specific panel at any time, by logging in and following the 'User Home' link in the top menu.
  • please make sure to tick all items in the checklist and the copyright notice

Submission Process: Step 2

  • details for the first author will be automatically uploaded from the user profile; details for other authors can be added using the 'Add Author' button
  • when submitting a paper, please make sure to select Single Presentation as the Submission Type
  • provide the title and an abstract (maximum 200 words) for the paper
  • provide three keywords for the paper, separated with a semi-colon (keyword 1; keyword 2 ; keyword 3)
